Causative Sentences (元気第22課)
Today, I'm going to practice causative sentences from chapter 22 of Genki 2.
These are used to describe situations where someone lets another group or person do something, or where someone makes someone do something.
Contrast this with passive forms, which tend to describe something that happens to someone.
Let's learn YET ANOTHER conjugation.
This is extremely similar to the passive form, except:
instead of ーられう it's ーさせる
ーあれる is ーあせる
くる ー> こさせる
する ー> させる
The teacher made the students read the textbook
先生は学生に教科書を読ませた。
as the book mentions, if one of the helping verbs
てあげる、てもらう、てくれる is used with a causative verb, it means the sentences has a connotation of "letting" someone do something.
The professor did not allow me to speak in English
先生は私に英語を話させてくれなかった
